Rooted & Rising

An Educational Experience for New Moms & their families

  • Baby Basics: Safe Start for New Parents

This class addresses the most urgent topics for new parents, including safe sleep practices, safe bathing, proper swaddling, and car seat installation. Taught in collaboration with child safety educators, nurses, and trained advocates, it emphasizes practical demonstrations, hands-on practice, and current safety guidelines from the AAP and CDC. This class will serve as a broad introduction to additional classes.  Participants also receive checklists and resource guides to take home.

  • Cradled in Care: Keeping Little Ones Safe at Home

This class equips new parents with essential knowledge and confidence to safely care for their babies during the most vulnerable early months of life. Parents will learn current best practices for safe sleep, including crib setup, swaddling, sleep positioning, and room-sharing guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, we’ll explore safe bathing routines, covering water temperature, infant handling, bathing frequency, and how to prevent common hazards.  Led by a local labor and delivery nurse, who is also a trained client advocate, this session includes demonstrations, handouts, and time for Q&A. Parents will receive checklists, resource guides, and encouragement to trust their instincts while staying informed.

  • Nourishing Little Ones: Nutrition for Ages 0-36 Months

This class covers breastfeeding, formula preparation, introducing solids, managing picky eaters, and the role of nutrition in early development. A trained volunteer or LSU AgCenter representative leads the session, which includes samples, recipes, and tips for shopping on a tight budget. We also cover WIC benefits and safe bottle/food storage.

  • Mom to Mom: Support & Encouragement for the Journey

This class provides education and support around postpartum depression and anxiety, stress management, healthy boundaries, and the value of asking for help. Women are introduced to local counseling resources and peer support. Each session includes time for reflection, journaling, and optional prayer support.

Rooted & Rising offers more than information—it’s an invitation to grow in faith, confidence, and community. Through this structured, spiritually grounded program, the Women’s Resource Center will continue our mission to encourage, equip, and empower families to thrive—one child, one parent, one story at a time.
